Christmas Concert 2020 via University of Iceland

We are happy that despite the situation, we were able to work on some Christmas music with our good friend Matthias Hemstock on drums and percussion, and share the fruits of our labour and love using a new streaming platform of the University of Iceland. They invited us to perform a Christmas show for their audience, which was live and is ever accessible on their platform - see below. We wish you all the best during this holiday season!

Nobilis humilis

We’ve been laying low during the COVID epidemic like most people, using the time to do some quiet research for our newest album which we hope to record in the beginning of 2021 crossing fingers We are focusing entirely on Icelandic traditional songs and folk songs, of which sources are scarce.

In the meanwhile, we wish you the best and hope you all stay safe <3

Dark Music Days coming up

Dark Music Days coming up

We will be premiering composer Kristín Þóra Haraldsdóttir’s brand theatrical composition, Bloodhoof, at the annual festival of contemporary and new music, Dark Music Days, in Reykjavík. Bloodhoof is based on the poem Blóðhófnir by Icelandic poet Gerður Kristný. Blóðhófnir is a contemporary version of an Old Norse tale, Skírnismál, seen in the light of abduction and abuse of giantess Gerður Gymisdóttir. Umbra will be performing with top notch Icelandic musicians, including the composer herself, with stunning visuals.

We finished recording the entire piece in 2019 and Bloodhoof will be released on Innova Recordings very very soon!
