Update summer/fall 2018

Umbra has been performing at very select venues this rainy summer of 2018. First at the Laxness home/museum Gljúfrasteinn in Mosfellsdalur, home to the 1955 Literature Nobel Prize winner Halldór Laxness. Then on a boat at The Herring Era Museum during the Siglufjörður Folk Festival (Þjóðlagahátið á Siglufirði). And last week we performed at Hannesarholt, home-turned-venue-and-restaurant in downtown Reykjavík, home to the late Hannes Hafsteinn, Iceland's first prime minister.

On Menningarnótt/Reykjavík Culture Night, August 18th, we will be performing at two Reykjavík landmarks; at Harpa Reykjavik Concert Hall and Conference Centre (Norðurljós Hall) and at the Hallgrímskirkja Church.

We are in the process of mixing our Christmas album, containing Yuletide Carols and Songs, due in October.

In November we are headed to Copenhagen, Denmark to premiere a new piece by the talented Icelandic composer Finnur Karlsson, a piece that he has been working on the past few months and is written specially for us. We plan to perform our own repertoire in Denmark as well so stay tuned for more news/dates!

New music video on an antiphon by Hildegard von Bingen

We have a new music video out, created by our very own Guðbjörg Hlín (Guggý), performed by UMBRA (from our new album Out of darkness). Music by Hildegard von Bingen - O Pastor animarum (antiphon). Enjoy!

First album "Out of darkness" out now

Our new album "Úr myrkrinu" ("Out of darkness) is finally out, published by Dimma, available in all major record stores in Iceland; Penninn/Eymundsson, 12 Tónar and Smekkleysa. We're grateful for such positive reviews thus far, including a 4 1/2 * review in the local paper Morgunblaðið.

New album on the way in 2018

New album on the way in 2018

Last year was eventful! Contemporary music performances, troubadour program including sephardic and arabic tunes, nordic program with beautiful melodies from Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Finland, a successful and exhilarating Llibre Vermell concert in the Landakot Church and finally our dear Christmas Concert with wonderful guests. We are blessed with our listeners and supporters, and look forward to a new and exciting year ahead, including two albums (!), premiere of a piece by composer Finnur Karlsson and more old and traditional music with fresh arrangements.
